Why is my WiFi running slow and dropping connection?
These are all signs of Wireless interference. No matter how fast the speed to your apartment is, if you have Wireless interference, your WiFi's speed will not be reliable.
- Place your router near the center of your apartment or townhome: Centralizing your wireless router in your home will provide an evenly distributed signal.
- Position your router’s antenna vertically: If your router has one or more antennas, position them vertically for better coverage throughout your apartment or townhome.
- Elevate your router: For better wireless reception, place your router on top of a desk, table or shelf instead of on the floor or in an enclosed space.
- Keep you router away from large metal objects: Wireless signal does not easily pass through metal. Placing your router away from large metal objects will help prevent signal loss.
- Place your router away from items that transmit radio waves: Some household items, such as microwaves or baby monitors, transmit radio waves at the same frequency as your wireless router. Placing your router away from these items will help improve your wireless connection.
